Danish at the workplace

We offer Danish courses your workplace, making it easy for employees to participate while ensuring that the lessons are tailored to your specific needs.

Your employees will learn Danish that helps them:

  • communicate confidently in everyday workplace situations
  • understand spoken instructions and read materials such as manuals and information screens
  • take part in small talk and social interactions with colleagues
  • understand both the written and unwritten rules of the workplace, and how they are expressed through language in daily working life

Danish language training can be delivered at your workplace, online, or as a blended solution combining both formats.

Several funding options are available for Danish language training. Book an informal meeting with one of our business consultants to learn more about the opportunities and available funding schemes.

  • Our business consultant will visit your company to discuss and agree on objectives, course content, and practical arrangements, while also assessing your employees’ current Danish language skills.

  • We will help you find the funding model that best suits your company and your employees.

    Model 1:
Employees who have arrived in Denmark within the past five years may be eligible to attend modules from the municipality-funded Danish Education Programme for Adult Foreign Nationals.

This funding model requires regular attendance and participation in mandatory module tests upon completion of each module. A refundable deposit of DKK 2,000 is required.

    Model 2:
Employees who have lived in Denmark for several years and already have a reasonable command of Danish can often be enrolled in courses through the state-funded Preparatory Adult Education (FVU) programme.

This funding model also requires regular attendance.

    Model 3:
The company can choose to fund Danish language training directly. This provides maximum flexibility, as the course can be tailored without the statutory learning objectives, framework requirements, or administrative procedures associated with public funding schemes.

In some cases, financial support may be available through competence development funds.

Compensation for lost earnings (SVU) – Applies to models 1, 2 and 3
Regardless of whether Danish language training is funded by the municipality (Model 1), the state (Model 2), or the company itself (Model 3), it may be possible to apply for Compensation for Lost Earnings (SVU) if the training takes place during working hours.

  • Employees at McBride have many different nationalities. All employees communicate in Danish but at their own basic level. The company wishes to improve their Danish skills for understanding verbal instructions and reading manuals and infoscreens. As the employees already know some Danish, they are offered the state-funded FVU Danish at the workplace and during working hours. The company receives wage loss compensation (SVU) and a grant from the company’s own competence development fund. In that way all expenses are covered.

HR manager Jeanette Karulf, McBride says:
“It is important to us that our employees can act in everyday life without language barriers. In addition, we believe that it increases the well-being of all employees when handovers and the more private conversation during breaks can take place in one language, where everyone can participate on an equal footing”.

Individual programmes

We offer individual courses either one-to-one or in small groups of 2-3 employees, at your workplace. These intensive, tailor-made courses are designed around each participant’s specific needs, goals, and learning preferences.

A tailored individual programme, or training in very small groups, can be the ideal solution for employees who need to develop specific Danish language skills for their day-to-day work.

These intensive programmes are highly focused and designed around the employee’s individual needs and goals. As a result, you will often see rapid improvements in the employee’s ability to communicate with colleagues, managers, and customers.

The programme can take place at your workplace, online, or as a blended solution combining both formats.

Contact us for an informal conversation about your needs and the options available.

  • Our business consultant will visit your company to agree on the objectives, content, schedule, location, and duration of the training programme.

Programmes typically consist of 8 to 20 lessons, depending on your requirements and the number of participants.

If you wish to extend the programme after it has started, this can be arranged before the agreed training period comes to an end.

  • The focus can be on developing a more nuanced vocabulary for specific workplace situations, customer communication, pronunciation, sentence structure, accuracy in work-related emails, and much more. Employees receive ongoing feedback and practical tools that help them continue improving their Danish in everyday work situations.

We also recommend establishing a language buddy partnership with a colleague who can support the employee’s language development in the workplace. Our teacher will provide guidance and practical tools to ensure that both parties are well prepared for this collaboration.

  • Contact our business consultant to learn more about the available options and pricing.

“It is a gift for our international employees to take part in these courses. They gain a much stronger foundation for becoming part of the workplace and the social life that comes with it. In itself, it is a valuable contribution to inclusion and well-being.”

– Elizabeth Nørgaard Sørensen, HR Partner, hummel

Hummel aims to attract and retain international talent. While English is the corporate language, Danish is also widely spoken at the company’s headquarters in Aarhus. To support the well-being of international employees both at work and in their everyday lives, three employees and one spouse participate in a specially tailored Danish language programme. The participants define their own learning needs, as well as when and how they would like the training to take place.
The programme combines in-person and online teaching, providing the flexibility needed to fit into a busy working week.

“We want employees and colleagues who are eager to grow and develop. Having Danish as the language we all share ‘around the coffee machine’ creates the best foundation for both personal and collective development.”

– Allan Ravn, Warehouse Manager, Rema 1000

Rema 1000 employs four international staff members who, despite having good Danish language skills, do not have enough opportunities to use Danish in their daily work.

To help them feel more confident in everyday communication and professional email writing, the company provides tailored Danish language training in the workplace.

The programme is highly flexible and adapted to the employees’ work schedules and individual needs. It is also intensive, enabling participants to make rapid progress that benefits both the employees themselves and Rema 1000.
